Consortium Co-Chair Francis Shen, JD, PhD, co-organized a panel on Deploying Portable & Accessible MRI in New Communities: Strategies for Anticipating & Addressing Ethical & Legal Challenges at the 2025 annual meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). Joining Dr. Shen for creation and presentation of the panel were: physicist Matthew Rosen, PhD, radiographer Mubaraq Yakubu, engineer J. Thomas Vaughan, Jr., PhD, and neuroscientist Udunna Anazodo, PhD. The panel featured conversation about the promises and perils of accessible and portable MRI, including the role of artificial intelligence, safety, and addressing challenges for use of MRI in resource-limited contexts. The session also provided an opportunity for sharing recently published recommendations from an interdisciplinary Working Group, supported by an NIH BRAIN Neuroethics grant (NIH RF1MH123698) based at the Consortium.
